The designer and artist who created this Arts & Crafts work of lighting art must have been inspired by the wonderful colors that mother nature has to offer in the late afternoons and evenings in the summer. Especially the copper red light that the sun creates when disappearing under the horizon seems the source of inspiration for this artist. With the colors in this particular alabaster shade AND in the brass 'frame' corresponding with the marvelous colors at sundown this one of a kind pendant really is a joy to own and to look at. In our experience it is also at that time of day that swallows are the most active. Just like the embossed swallows in this shade we too have seen them circling above and around a swimming pool in the Canary Islands. By the way, the workmanship that has gone into hand-crafting this remarkable chandelier is of a level that you don't find anymore in this day and age. Never mind the amount of time it must have taken to first hand-draw and then completely hand-craft this gem. We have said it many times before and we will say it again here: both with the light switched on and off, the colors in this alabaster shade are much warmer and much more beautiful than in our photos. You can take our word for it. Because of the many colors and 'patches' one could also say that this pendant (when looking at it from different sides and angles) has many faces. That too is the beauty of surrounding yourself with truly natural materials.

What makes this particular alabaster pendant stand out from those that we have seen and sold over the years are both the great colors AND the stylish and all-handcarved grape bunches and wine leafs that are going all around the shade. If you look closely then you will realize that these grapevines are not only the most deeply carved you will have ever seen, they also have been hand-carved with a technique that is called "(we cannot find the name for it yet)". Most of us are unable to handcarve anything half-decent, but the artisan whom created this work-of-art-light-fixture took it to another level alltogether. Not only did he hand-carve beautifully detailed grapevines with grape bunches and wine leafs, he also managed to carve everything around it away whilst still keeping the stunning alabaster shade perfectly round. Using this particular technique of hand-carving on a flat surface would already be very difficult and time consuming, performing it on a round surface is something only the true master carvers would have been able accomplish. Red and pink & black and white are the main colors in this, one of a kind alabaster pendant and with the light off this work of art really is a joy to own and look at. However, with the light switched on this amazing shade comes even more to life and then this chandelier creates an atmosphere that is unlike anything we have ever seen. For this unique light to still be in this amazing condition after more than 100 years is not only an ode to the craftsmanship with which this light was handmade, it also shows how former owners have taken great care. We could shoot many more photos, but you still would not be able to see the true beauty of this alabaster stone shade and you could still not get a good idea of the unique beauty and class that this chandelier radiates. In real life our antiques always have that little bit extra and this stunning pendant truly epitomizes that. You can (again) take our word for it. Have you also noticed the perfect bronze and bross suspension points? They too are in perfect condition. To us, this is the perfect antique pendant for a restaurant or winery, but it will also look perfect in a cosey entry hall or in a bedroom. All handcrafted using quality materials only this Arts and Crafts era chandelier breathes the kind of class that early 20th century craftsman were known for. Because of the stylish floral patterns this antique work of lighting art is like an ode to mother nature herself. We 'Dutchies' have a special connection with flowers in general and with daisy flowers in particular and if this antique light fixture is not Dutch then we understand very well why it ended up here. The three brass arms and also the 'base' in which the large, cut-glass shade hangs all come with stunning and typical Arts and Crafts, embossed style elements / decorations. All the detailed and precise engravings in all the glass shades were hand-done and for all the glass shades to be in mint condition after more than 100 years, to us, is like a minor miracle. The large, handcrafted, hand-engraved and partially colored glass shade too has stylized flower motifs in it and the combination of materials makes this antique chandelier an absolute joy to look at. The six hand carved arms are like stems of flowers growing out of the base of this chandelier and the perfect (both design and condition-wise) alabaster shades are like stylized blooming flowers. Just like the six mint arms, the monumental and mint circular 'base' too is all hand-crafted and hand carved out of soilid oak and with a stunning row of large oak beads between the top and bottom section.
