Tito Agnoli was an Italian designer known for his innovative and minimalist approach to furniture and lighting design. Born in Lima, Peru, in 1931, Agnoli moved to Italy where he studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. He began his career in the 1950s, quickly gaining recognition for his clean lines and functional designs.
Agnoli collaborated with several renowned Italian manufacturers, including Oluce, Arflex, and Poltrona Frau. His designs often featured a blend of modernist aesthetics with practical functionality, making them timeless pieces in the world of interior design. Notable works include his Model #387 floor lamp for Oluce.

Tito Agnoli
Prolific designer Tito Agnoli created imaginative furniture with a singular mix of natural and industrial materials. Designing in the modern and mid-century modern styles, he made sofas, armchairs and daybeds from leather, bamboo and rattan as well as metal table lamps and floor lamps.
Born into an Italian family in Peru in 1931, Agnoli studied at the Faculty of Architecture in Milan. In 1949, he graduated with a degree in architecture from Politecnico di Milano. While there, he became acquainted with designers Gio Ponti and Carlo De Carli. He later worked with them as an assistant, learning to create austere pieces with flawless dimensions.
Utilizing this knowledge, he developed his own practice and worked with many Italian producers, including Arflex, Cinova, Lema, Matteo Grassi, Molteni, Montina, Oluce, Pierantonio Bonacina, Poltrona Frau, Schiffini and Ycami.
Agnoli received prestigious nominations for the Compasso d’Oro award. At the 1986 NeoCon exhibition in Chicago, he won a gold medal. His works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Model 387 has always been referred to as the 'Agnoli,' named after its designer Tito Agnoli. It is one of the most historic lamps in the Oluce catalog. As a precursor of minimalism, the Agnoli lamp used the “Cornalux” light bulb, capable of directing light in an extremely precise manner, by mounting it on top of a sliding mechanism positioned on a stem. The sophisticated travertine base represents the component that adds a touch of elegance to an object in which simplicity and functionality become elements of pure poetry.
