Glass and aluminium floor lamp by Tony Zuccheri for Mazzega  , 1970s

About the Item

Aluminum structure, blown glass diffuser. Toni Zuccheri, son of the animalist painter Luigi Zuccheri, he inherited his passion for animals, recurring subjects in his creations. Toni Zuccheri attended the faculty of architecture in Venice under the guidance of Gardella, Albini, Scarpa and Samonà. He began collaborating with VENINI in the 1960s: his first glass works, following the family tradition, were animals made of polychrome glass with precious techniques, such as "murrine". In 1965 he began to collaborate with Gio Ponti, together with whom he designed a new stained glass system, the "Vetrate Grosse". Later, he expanded his glass production with new colors and subjects, participating in numerous exhibitions around the world. The roots of Mazzega1946 sink into Murano, a land of master glassmakers who still today preserve the centuries-old techniques of hand-crafting glass. In over seventy years the company has revived and reinterpreted the Murano heritage with passion and tenacity, without betraying its origins and inviting international designers with heterogeneous expressive languages to adopt those alchemies of sands, oxides and dusts. Mazzega1946 today addresses a global niche market, offering lighting products that last over time, faithful to the tradition of the island, exploring innovative and contemporary contents.
