Romeo Moon Floor Lamp by Philippe Starck for Flos

About the Item

Flared, fluted and fabulous. The Flos Romeo Moon-F lamp features a fluted clear glass shade, which sparkles brightly with the light diffused by the internal acid-etched borosilicate glass diffuser. This luminous shade rests atop an aluminum, steel and polycarbonate base finished in a soft silvery Gray. Designed by Philippe Starck in 1996. Philippe Starck (born January 18, 1949)[1] is a French designer known since the start of his career in the 1980s for his interior, product, industrial and architectural design including furniture. Philippe Starck began his schooling at the Notre-Dame de Sainte-Croix institution in Neuilly. Then he studied at CamONDO School in Paris, under the leadership of Henry Malvaux In September 2017, The Milan Furniture Fair handed out its award for the second year running at the Triennale Arts Theatre. Among the winners were Philippe Starck, who was the winner of the Best Designer Award. He dreams of solutions so vital that he was the first French man to be invited to the TED conferences (Technology, Entertainment & Design) alongside renowned participants including Bill Clinton and Richard Branson. In 1969 Starck designed an inflatable structure, based on the idea of materiality, reflecting his early interest in living spaces. Not long afterwards, Pierre Cardin, seduced by the iconoclastic design, offered him the job of artistic director at his publishing house. In 1970, Philippe Starck founded his first industrial design company, Starck Product, which he later renamed Ubik after the famous Philip K. Dick novel. Here began work with the biggest design manufacturers in Italy - Driade, Alessi, Kartell - and others throughout Europe – Drimmer in Austria, Vitra in Switzerland and Disform in Spain, for examples. In 1983, then-French President François Mitterrand, on the recommendation of his Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, chose Starck to refurbish the president's private apartments at the Élysée. The following year he designed the Café Costes.[6] Over the years, Starck worked with some of the finest Italian furniture brands, including creating the iconic Generic chair for Kartell, the innovative Lady Hio table for Glass Italia and chic sofas and armchairs for the likes of Cassina and Driade

Set of Milo Baughman Biedermeier Lounge Chairs for Thayer Coggin
By Thayer Coggin, Milo Baughman
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This Biedermeier 90 collection, Milo Baughman did with Thayer Coggin in the is one of the last collections Milo and Coggin did together in the 1990's. Milo Baughman believed the midcentury style needed to be warmed up a bit. For admirers of Biedermeier furniture, the neoclassical style that flourished in Austria and Germany from 1815-1830, the choices are few: scarce and expensive antique pieces and now, Milo Baughman's Biedermeier 90 collection for Thayer Coggin, a furniture maker in High Point, N.C. ''When I teach the history of modern design, I start with Biedermeier, because it's the first indication that there would be a new philosophy in design, furniture designed to be more honest and simple,'' said Mr. Baughman, who has designed furniture for Thayer Coggin since 1953 and also teaches design at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. The 27-piece collection, which includes consoles, tables and upholstered seating, captures the spirit of Biedermeier design with honey-colored wood veneers, neoclassical fluted columns and natural steel finishes. - Ref NYTIMES, 8/10/1989 “Eurostyle started out as a fairly valid design statement,” says Milo Baughman, a highly regarded veteran furniture designer who teaches at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. ''But when it was reduced to more commercial levels and picked up too quickly by people who make cheap furniture...
