18th Century Hunting Horns Wall Lamp with 3 Lights Antique Bronze

About the Item

This sconce combines two very popular motifs in the ornamentation of 18th century lamps. The knot, very popular from the reign of Louis XV, present for example on a model of François Thomas Germain dating from 1756 preserved in the Getty Museum, and the musical instruments, especially the hunting horns. They can be found on the chandelier of the gilded salon of the Château de Rueil-Malmaison. Topped by a finely chiseled bow, whose ribbons fall delicately along the wall, three arms of light in the shape of hunting horns support the candle wicks. Joined together by a mirror knot, the curves of the hunting horns echo those of the knot above them. The composition is balanced by the lines formed by the three horns, in response to the falling ribbon. We have one pair in stock however we can produce them made to measure and in other finishes such as 18k gold, 24k gold, silver, nickel, black nickel (our any bespoke finish). This wall lamp is inspired by a chandelier model of Josef Hoffmann (architect and designer member of the Viennese Secession). Indeed, the lower part of the sconce, composed of three palm leaves adorned with drops, is close to that of the Austrian architect’s successful model. However, the composition is more complex than its original. A light plate, whose ornaments recall the eighteenth century, completes the stage of palms, itself topped by a shell. The latter opens on three floors in half-crown, decorated with drops. These crowns are reminiscent of the chandeliers of Central European countries (one thinks of the chandelier of Werner and Mieth in the Russian taste, dating from the nineteenth century and preserved in the Mathieu Museum), as well as the edges of the shell take the form of lava flow.
