Pierre Chapo, "B17 LONGUE" Bookshelf, circa 1967
By Pierre Chapo
Located in New York, NY
"B17 Longue" bookshelf by Pierre Chapo, circa 1967, in elmwood. Beautiful example of the timeless design mastery of Pierre Chapo (1927 - 1986). In 1967, Pierre Chapo presented new creations at the Salon des Arts Ménagers, exhibiting the B17 bookshelf for the first time. The B 17 is fixed to the wall, freeing up considerable floor space. The bookshelf, whose presence surprises by its discretion and elegance, comes in several versions of differing lengths and heights. The harmony of the lines between the uprights and the shelves (in 50 mm sections) is accentuated by the originality of the support system. Supports, as their name implies, normally prop up the shelves of a piece of furniture or else the jutting parts of buildings. Pierre Chapo decided not to take this universal law into account and modeled a support that fits into the upright, which means the shelf can be solidly fixed under its support. In a balance between gravity and the forces at play, the more weight goes on the shelf, the better its components slot into the upright. Literature: Magen H...

Pierre Chapo "T14C" Dining Table with "D08" Extensions, circa 1964
By Pierre Chapo
Located in New York, NY
"T14C" dining table with "D08" extensions by Pierre Chapo (1927-1986), circa 1964, in elm wood. Great original condition, beautiful vintage patina. Measures: Table: 28.74 H x 72.05 W x 33.86 D inches 73 H x 183 W x 86 D cm Extensions: 15.35 x 33.86 inches 39 x 86 cm The S 14 bench is a versatile piece in the Chapo nomenclature. Initially planned as a seat for the large T 14 table, the S 14 bench borrows its base and pillar legs from the T 14 and its robust look from the S 01 stool. Pierre Chapo (1927-1987) Pierre Chapo was first interested in painting, but his encounter with a shipbuilding carpenter in 1947, introduced him to wood and woodworking, and led to architectural studies at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After traveling through Scandinavia, Central America and working for a year in the United States, he returned to Paris and pursued his interest in wood, crafting furniture...
