About the Item
Pair of Wall Lamps Model 294L by Hans-Agne Jakobsson – Sweden, 1960s.
These wall lamps, model no. 294L, feature brass and the soft, glare-free illumination that became a hallmark of Hans-Agne Jakobsson’s design language. Designed in Sweden during the 1960s, they exemplify his refined approach to light—prioritising atmosphere, warmth, and visual comfort through thoughtful material use and concealed light sources.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a renowned Swedish designer whose work helped define the Scandinavian modern aesthetic. His lighting designs are especially admired for their ability to create gentle, ambient light by diffusing and concealing the bulb, avoiding harsh glare. Early in his career, Jakobsson worked as an industrial designer for General Motors, later gaining experience in furniture and interior design while assisting Carl Malmsten and Werner West.
In 1951, he founded his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden, where he produced a wide range of lighting and furniture.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a Swedish interior and furniture designer, who ran his own company from 1951. Jakobsson was especially famous for his lighting designs, which often had a softly glowing light and organic shape. His designs were inspired by great, modern Scandinavian designers such as the Finnish icon Alvar Aalto and Danish lighting master Poul Henningsen.
