Danish Art Nouveau Ceramic Table Lamp by Danico with Purple Flower Decor, 1920s

About the Item

Tall ceramic table lamp in the Danish "Skønvirke" style from the 1920s. It's from from the ceramic workshop Danico and most likely by ceramist Eiler Christensen Løndal. "Skønvirke" is the later Danish version of the French Art Nouveau and the German Jugendstil. The lamp is decorated with the difficult cow horn technique which is achieved by using slip trailed glaze through a cow horn and feather quill. It shows an organic flower decor in purple colors. Danico was established in 1919 in the town Horsens by ceramist Niels Peter Nielsen and merchant Corfitzen. The name Danico is a combination of "Dansk" (Danish) and the first two letters of the owners´ last names. Their work has similarities to the contemporary works by the famous workshop HAK (Hermann August Kähler) and there is a reason. Two of the potters came from HAK. Danico only existed 10 years. Eiler Christensen Løndal (1887-1971) is the artistic leader until 1922 and during his period Danico has a lot of success. This lamp is most likely his design. Included is a new lampshade designed and made in Denmark. It is made of woven fabric with some texture and is off white. It has a top cover so it will spread a cozy light downwards. Stamped “Danico made in Denmark". Engraved by hand: 236. Measurements: Height including lampshade as shown in photos: 64 cm (25.20") (height can be adjusted) Height with socket: 43,5 cm (17.13") Height ceramic part only (without socket): 36 cm (14.17") Diameter lamp base: 21,5 cm (8.46") Diameter shade: 36 cm (14.17") Very good used condition No chips, cracks or repairs Very minor marks on surface.
