About the Item

This elegant Jean Roger faux painted lamp from the 1970s embodies the designer's theatrical and classical design sensibility. The urn-shaped wood body is faux painted to emulate black marble, enhanced with trompe-l’œil festoon garlands of “hard stone” insets of tiger's eye, lapis, jasper and malachite. Resting on a squared plinth and topped with a contrasting ivory collar and navy blue drum shade, the lamp evokes neoclassical grandeur with a glamorous twist. Jean Roger, known for his handcrafted ceramics and distinctive surface finishes, designed pieces that balanced whimsy, tradition, and rich decorative effect. This Jean Roger faux painted lamp would make a dramatic and collectible addition to a Hollywood Regency, neoclassical, or eclectic interior. A rare example of French studio craftsmanship in the decorative arts revival of the 1970s.
