About the Item

Large and beautifully rustic, organic Danish Mid-Century Modern warm brown stoneware table lamp by Løvemose Keramik. Runny glaze on hand carved relief checked pattern on the belly and long raw neck. Manufactured on the small Danish island of Langeland in the 1960s. Original fitting with switch. Stamped under base. Beautiful vintage condition. Large enough to be used as a table lamp or as a floor lamp. Denmark, 1960s. Løvemose Keramik was founded in 1942 by Marie Hansen (1919-2008) nicknamed Musse and her husband, the crafts potter Johannes Hansen (-2003) nicknamed Mik as in Keramik (Danish for Ceramics). The company was situated in the town of Kædeby on the small Danish island of Langeland and was very succesful in the 1960s and 70s. At one point they had up to 15 employees, working largely with retailer Rasmus Holbech in Odense on the island of Funen. The pair sold the company in 1982 but stayed on in the house Kædebyhus, where the production had taken place.
