‘L’Escargot Lamp’ in Coiled Black Leather with Natural Sea Snail Shade
About the Item

L’Escargot Lamp is the latest release from the Venus Collection, a whimsical family of handmade fixtures inspired by the Surrealists and the natural forms of the sea. Employing the most recent advances in cool-to-the-touch LED technology, the collection features table lamps, floor lamps, and sconces made with hand-selected vintage specimen seashells in place of traditional shades, putting the organic source material behind so much 20th century modernism front and center.
The elegant, undulating ribs and crooked smile of the Malea Ringrens sea snail (a Galapagos native commonly known as the Great Grinning Tun) inspired the sexy black leather coils of Model No. 025—a hit of Helmut Newton by way of Charles Darwin.
Standing 16” tall, its hand dyed-leather-wrapped concrete base and steel column rises to a vintage matte-white sea-snail-shell shade with subtle flecks of black and brown, sourced from a Florida collector.
Fully adjustable on both axes, heavy-duty brass swivels at the top and bottom of the column allow for fine-tuning of the shade angle and overall silhouette. Unfinished brass hardware, a twisted black cloth-covered cord, 1940s-style plug, and black in-line switch complete the profile of this hard-working, hard-wearing, all-natural beauty.
Made-to-order by hand in a numbered, signed edition by artist Christopher Tennant.
