Gae Aulenti trained in Milan in the group of young people linked to Ernesto Rogers; with him she collaborated on the editorial staff of Casabella magazine from 1955 to 1965, taking care of its graphics and layout. He graduated in architecture in 1959 and participated in the 1950s/60s in the "Neo-Liberty" movement, whose components of originality are found in several of his projects; from '60 to '62 he taught with Samonà in the Faculty of Architecture in Venice and from '64 to '67 with Ernesto Rogers in the Faculty of Architecture in Milan. He gained international notoriety by designing interior architecture, fittings and exhibitions for major Italian industries, residential and educational buildings, as well as designing furniture elements and lighting systems.
