Oriental Blue Glass & Rattan Table Lamp K11-18, Maria Lindeman, Idman 1950s
About the Item
An oriental style delicate table lamp model K11-18 by Maria Lindeman for Idman from the 1950s. This rare, almost Aladin's lantern like lamp features a blown blue glass base with a brass top and handle. The rattan shade is of a later date. The lamp body is in it's original condition with the electric wiring seemingly changed at one point.
Maria Lindemann graduated from the design school "Taideteollisuuskeskuskoulu", now known as the Aalto University School of Arts, Design, and Architecture just when the second world ended. In 1953 Lindemann took part in a competition of lighting fixtures, announced by the Idman company, which resulted in a full-time job as an artistic designer. Idman became the leading light manufacturers in Finland that then acquired Taito just around that same time.
Lindeman’s designs varied from modern to classical designs. During the 1950s and 1960s, Lindeman became one of the voices in constructing Finnish modernism, and a participating member in the formulation of the Golden Age of Finnish design.
