About the Item
Presented here is a rare and exquisite antique French mirror, finished in black and gold, crafted in the year 1888. The mirror features the distinctive rounded top corners characteristic of the French Louis Philippe style. Its predominantly black frame is enriched with a stylized gilded engraving on the highest part. The classic pearl beading that surrounds the glass, as well as the outer edge, were gilded. The gilding on this mirror frame is painted, wherein gold leaf was dissolved in clear lacquer. The gold was patinated to soften the contrast with the black. The result is an exceedingly attractive mirror, complemented by its original mirror glass. The glass dates back to 1888, as indicated by the studio stamp on the back of the glass. The mirror glass displays numerous gentle spots, as attempted to be captured in the photos.
In our studio, the mirror underwent repairs for a minor damage on the outer edge at the top. Additionally, the glass was temporarily removed from its setting, and the entire mirror was gently cleaned. The glass was securely repositioned, and the mirror is now ready for use.
