Antique 19th Century French Louis XIV Style Giltwood Wall Mirror

About the Item

A fabulous, antique wall mirror sourced in France offering a majestic visual impact. The frame is made of solid wood and molded, gilded stuck. It is decorated with striking, voluptuous leaves and flowers in a Louis XVI style. The frame has most likely had several layers of gold paint in the past. The frame dates from the 19th century. The mirror can be positioned horizontally or vertically. It is surprisingly heavy (3 kg/ 7lb). In good antique condition. The frame has a lovely, deep patina that only time can create. The mirror itself is not original, it has been replaced at some point in time. No structural issues. The frame shows signs of wear consistent with age. It has a crack along the upper edge where the moulding strip is attached to the flat piece of wood (see photo). One corner has chips missing (only visible from the side), however it has had a retouch of gold paint (see photo). All in all, with its very ornate decor, it is very surprising that the front of the mirror is so well preserved (see photos). Dimension: height 47.5 cm/ 18 3/4", width 38.5 cm/ 15 1/4", depth 4/ 1 1/2". Weight: 3125 g/ 6.89 lb
