About the Item
An elegant and high quality Continental early 19th century Neo-Classical st. patinated and Giltwood mirror. This wonderfully detailed rectangular mirror is raised on two Giltwood sphinges supporting a fluted plinth. The original mirror plate above is set within a beaded Giltwood frame before a patinated blue Wood background accented with rosettes at each corner. To each side are fluted columns which support the fluted entablature with mottled top and bottom Giltwood bands. At the top center is sensational and extremely detailed Revolutionary style trophy like Giltwood reserve of a suit of armor and helmet flanked by two shields. In the background are four draped flags amidst a sword, cannon, and cannon balls.
