Early Wall Mirror, Frame, Tramp Art, Folk Art, Biedermeier, 1835, Austria

About the Item

A very richly decorated early example of the famous tramp art frames of Austria, from the 1830s. The frame of the mirror is crafted in a layered construction, with extra raised shapes on the protruding corners. But not only at the corners a special richness of detail can be seen, but the entire surface of the frame is equipped with interesting ornaments. The surface of basswood ist stained in a warm brown and varnished. The substructure of spruce is overlapping and lightly beveled, so it is an old construction. The mirror plate is renewed. Measurements approx.: height 59,2 cm - 23,31 in, width 45 cm - 17,72 in, depth 4,5 cm - 1,77 in The frame of the mirror has a metal suspension, so an immediate wall installation is possible.

Tramp Art Rustic Wall Mirror Hand Carved, Austria, circa 1870
Located in Lichtenberg, AT
Unusual rustic Tramp Art wall mirror from the late 19th century around 1870 in Austria. Hand carved out of fine basswood, the wide frame shows a gorgeous chip carved design with spectacular made corners. The very dark brown stained surface shows a shellac finishing and confers this antique mirror a great appearance. The mirror glass has been renewed during the restoration process and a hand forged ring on the backside makes wall mounting easy. A truly unique Tramp Art masterpiece in our very popular selection of rustic wall mirrors.
