A French 1925 Art Deco Pair of Wrought-Iron Mirrors

About the Item

A French Art Deco Pair of wrought-iron oval beveled mirrors The oval frame designed with volutes, flowers, fruits and leaves Circa 1925 In 1925, the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts reveals a paradox: while the predominantly French Art Deco seduces the world, the world already has in its boxes another project, the international style, yet almost ignored by the 1925 Exhibition. This is the culmination of the Art Deco movement and it is especially the year of the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris, the city-light to which the whole world turns its eyes. The name of the exhibition has often led to confusion with the movement «Art Deco», while its purpose is much richer and that it lets us perceive two fundamental trends: the opposition between decorative art and industrial production, between craft and industry. The first trend corresponds to "Art Deco" proper, heir of a French tradition of elegance and the second to the "New Spirit", or modernism, illustrated by the pavilion-manifesto of Le Corbusier, more concerned with social and technical realities, Aiming at a symbiosis with the nascent industrial society. The beginning of the 20th century is marked by a number of discoveries: steam, hydraulic power, electricity, explosion engine, means of transport... These discoveries led to the development of industrial and commercial enterprises, concerns for hygiene, an evolution of social ideas to which the arts could not remain indifferent.
