Italian 18th Century Baroque Walnut and Giltwood Mirror
About the Item
An exceptional Italian 18th century neo-classical st. walnut, giltwood, ebonized fruitwood and polychrome mirror. The mirror retains all of its original mirror plates throughout framed within a fine walnut border. Striking architectural columns extend up each side with unique and most decorative suns set on octagonal reserves at the base leading up ebonized fruitwood supports to fine ionic giltwood capitals. Beautiful richly carved polychrome and giltwood maidens dressed in period attire are standing above and wearing elegant crowns. Above and at the center is a bearded giltwood mask holding intricately detailed swaging polychrome foliate garlands in his mouth with charming giltwood floral accents all below the mottled top crown.
