Louis XIV Giltwood Mirror

About the Item

The rectangular original mirror plate within a mirrored border surmounted by a foliate carved crest with birds and musical trophy, each side carved with floral and foliate swags, all above a pierced and swag carved apron centering fleur-de-lys medallion.

Provenance: Sold American Art Association and Anderson Galleries, NY, “The Lenore Wheeler Williams Private Collection of 17th and 18th Century Furniture and Embellishments from Great Hearth”, New York, March 20-21, 1931, lot #179, The catalogue mentions that the mirror was obtained from a descendant of the Hudson family in Connecticut, to whose ancestor it was given by Lafayette after he had been entertained there in 1825.
