About the Item
Impressively sized 18th century French Louis XV period mirror in giltwood mirror featuring elaborate carved Rococo designs and a rare wine trophy crest. Other than its impressive scale, the mirror's unique feature is the trophic crest consisting of an oak barrel flanked by bunches of grapes, all inside a cabochon-design frame. (See image 7 for a close-up.) While trophic crests of "Victory", "Music", and "Knowledge" are relatively common allegorical themes, this rare design was likely a special commission for its owner.
