About the Item

A rare and visually captivating pair of diamond-shaped wall mirrors designed by Verner Panton and produced by Beylerian of New York, one of the most forward-thinking design houses to champion European modernism in the American market during the 1970s. These mirrors are documented in the Beylerian sales catalogue under model number 570039, and published in Verner Panton: The Collected Works (Weil am Rhein, 2000), p. 303—marking them as important and collectible within the Panton canon. Executed in angular, faceted forms, the mirrors embody Panton’s lifelong exploration of geometry, repetition, and spatial illusion. Their prismatic design pays direct homage to the visual language of Op Art, a movement that similarly manipulated light, pattern, and perception to disrupt visual expectations and engage the viewer’s sense of motion and depth. What makes these mirrors particularly fascinating is that they do not offer a straightforward reflection. When viewed head-on, they fracture and collage the surrounding space, creating a kaleidoscopic patchwork of light, color, and motion. You do not see yourself clearly, but instead experience an ever-changing visual composition, shifting with light, movement, and time. In this way, each mirror becomes a living artwork, blending interior architecture with optical play. Mirrors like these—beyond their sculptural form—speak to the era’s desire to open up space, multiply light, and turn walls into immersive surfaces. Their reflective geometry makes them especially effective in small or dimly lit interiors, while their bold form can anchor larger, modernist or pop-inspired rooms. Produced in limited quantities by Beylerian and largely available only through high-end trade channels, these mirrors are now exceptionally rare and increasingly sought after by collectors and designers alike. They pair beautifully with pieces by Joe Colombo, Gabriella Crespi, or Pierre Cardin, and would sit comfortably in interiors curated by Dimorestudio, India Mahdavi, or Kelly Wearstler. A compelling and poetic object from one of design’s most visionary minds—part mirror, part art, and entirely modern.
