About the Item

"Vaca Colgada" is a large mirror, designed by Nestor Perkal and manufactured by Oscar Maschera. Leather colors available: tan, sienna, orange, red, red-purple, dark brown, khaki, blue, black. DIMENSIONS (metal structure): D. 35.4", W. 47.2", H. 5.9" DIMENSIONS (leather): D. 39.3", W. 51.1" Each mirror is never the same as the one before, nor as the one that comes after, as well as the leather used to make it. Each hide, as it reaches the workshop, is hung on a frame/shelf and a hole is then made in its centre to see the mirror. Each hide is unique, as well as each mirror. "Mirrors should reflect a little before throwing back images." Jean Cocteau, Le sang d'un poète (1930) Nestor Perkal said about "Vaca Colgada": "This object has always fascinated me. Is it there simply to reflect our image or is it looking at us? It envelopes us, searches for us, constantly questions us. At Oscar Maschera I looked for what leather could bring to this object and how it could become its supporting structure." NESTOR PERKAL, born in Buenos Aires, lives and works in Paris. Though he trained as an architect, his work has always been oriented to design and interior architecture. In 1985, he founded an international design gallery in Paris, l’Espace Nestor Perkal, where he was among the first in Europe to show and sell pieces from the “New International Design” movement: Memphis Milano, Mariscal and many others. From 1987-1994, he was the artistic director of the goldsmith’s company Algorithme, where he invited many designers to work on edition projects that were highly successful in France and abroad. As a designer, he has collaborated with Drimmer, Lou Fagotin, Artcodif, Veronese, etc. At CIRVA (International Research Centre on Glass and Plastic Arts), he created the Miroirs collection in 1994-1996. As an interior architect, he has furnished the “café” of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, different areas for Cartier and the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art, as well as many private apartments and houses. He has been the curator and scenographer of exhibitions held at the Cartier Foundation (La vie en Roses, 1998), at the Galerie Chez Valentin, Paris (“chez Valentin 2000”), at the Passage de Retz (Paris, 2000), at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rochechouart and at the Grand Hornu in Belgium for the exhibition Désirs d’Objets (2003-2004) and at the Museum des Arts Décoratifs, Paris for the exhibition Editer le design (2006) and 100% Finlandia (2008). He has been the director of the Research Centre on the Arts of Fire and Earth (CRAFT) of Limoges (1993 – 2009), developing strong and lively projects aimed at creating an experimental and artistic connection between industrialists and designers, architects and artists.

The initial idea for the Aro Mirror came during the social project “Mãos em Ação” (“Hands in Action”), a realization of Instituto Campana in partnership with Ôda Design Club, produced by Consuelo Cornelsen and mentoring by Humberto Campana. Later developed, Aro Mirror has a thick round-section solid wooden frame forming a circle or an ellipse. Embedded to it is the mirrored surface. Each side edge of the frame receives a solid metal sphere that can be used as a hanger. Available in several dimensions, Aro Mirror still allows to form sets through the metal spheres, which this time connect the pieces in sequence and create different compositions Leandro Garcia Contrary to a general trend of large-scale production and homogenization, he develops unique and exclusive designs. His creative process claims on rational and functional solutions that explore the essence of shapes in the conception of the object and/or space. Leandro Garcia seeks to develop a timeless aesthetic, which translates into the disposal of excess and the exploration of primordial spatial matters such as proportion, light and shadow, materials and textures. The detail is essential, being directly connected to the design artwork. Architect and urban-planer graduated from the university “Universidade do Grande ABC (UniABC)”, Leandro Garcia began his studies in the area over 25 years ago, when attended technical school in Civil Engineering...
