With the illustrated bookplate of American industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie to each front pastedown. Carnegie, born in Stevenson's native Scotland, emigrated to America as a child, and was instrumental in the expansion of the American steel industry, becoming one of the richest Americans in history, and a leading philanthropist in the United States, Great Britain, and the British Empire. During the last eighteen years of his life, he gave away ninety percent of his fortune to charitable causes. An exceptionally beautiful set. In half crushed morocco bindings, with cloth covered boards. Externally, wonderful. Light rubbing to front board head of 'Treasure Island', with minor rubbing to spine tail of 'Vailma Letters', and light mark to front board of 'Familiar Studies'. Instances of light rubbing to back strip heads and tails. Back strips a touch age toned. Bookplates to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright.
