Luxurious catalogue published to accompany a 2007-2008 exhibition of the same name held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California. Hopper Drawing by and inscribed by Carter E Foster to Herbert Kasper, 1st Ed
Located in valatie, NY
Hopper Drawing by Carter E Foster. 2013, Whitney Museum of American Art. 1st Ed hardcover with dust jacket. This monograph was prepared to accompany the exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, from May 23 to October 6, 2013. The exhibition then traveled to Dallas and finally to the Walker Art Center in 2014. The book was owned by Herbert Kasper and inscribed by the author to him. Herbert Kasper was an American fashion designer known as Kasper. He studied English and advertising at New York University and fashion at the Parsons School of Design in New York from 1951–53 and l'Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in 1953. He left NYU to serve in the US Army in Europe. After World War II he enrolled at Parsons, where he became a protégé of milliner Fred Frederics. After graduating, he returned to Paris for two years developing his skills in design while working for Jacques Fath, Christian Dior, and Marcel Rochas. When he returned to the US, he worked for Frederics at Mr. John. He was an avid art collector, and in 2011, the Morgan Library and Museum devoted an exhibition, called “Mannerism and Modernism: The Kasper Collection of Drawings and Photographs,” to the designer.
Hopper Drawing is the first major museum exhibition to focus on the drawings and creative process of Edward Hopper (1882–1967). More than anything else, Hopper's drawings reveal the continually evolving relationship between observation and invention in the artist's work, and his abiding interest in the spaces and motifs--the street, the movie theatre, the office, the bedroom, the road—that he would return to throughout his career as an artist. This exhibition showcases the Whitney's unparalleled collection of Hopper's work, which includes over 2,500 drawings bequeathed to the museum by his widow Josephine Hopper...

Christopher Milne. Enchanted Places, 1st Ed Inscribed by Milne & His Nanny, 1974
Located in Hillsborough, NJ
AUTHOR: MILNE, Christopher.
TITLE: The Enchanted Places.
PUBLISHER: London: Eyre Methuen, 1974.
DESCRIPTION: FIRST EDITION INSCRIBED BY MILNE AND SIGNED BY HIS NANNY. 1 vol., hardcover, illustrated, inscribed by Milne on the front blank endleaf "- Birthday Morning 1975 - but also to remember the one of forty years ago, sun shining through a window in St. John Street & lighting a vase of daffodils on a little blue table & to remember to happy days of Christopher Robin & Pooh - & to remember -", under that signed by Christopher's Nanny (Olive Christine Rand Brockwell) "Always Old Nanny XXX XX X", bookplate to half-title additionally signed by Milne "A Favorite Friend", with the original DJ, not price clipped, FINE/NEAR FINE.
Additionally, tipped to the front pastedown is an envelope in Milne's hand addressed to a Miss Elizabeth (Campbell) Hiskins containing a 2-page letter on Harbour Bookshop letterhead dated 28-2-75 which reads "How very nice of you to write to me: a letter like that couldn't possibly be a wol (sic). It made me very happy to think that I had helped make your birthday an enjoyable one. Yes, I have had a number of letters, many of the writers finding that the book awakened happy childhood memories, even though their own lives had been very different from mine. Often - as in your case - a common bond had been our skymen. I remember Michael and Geraldine well. So if you do ever see them again, please give them my best wishes. Yours sincerely Christopher Milne"
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The "Harbour Bookshop" was the bookstore owned and run by Milne and his daughter Clare who was diagnosed with severe cerebral palsy.
Milne remained close to his Nanny all his life. This book "The Enchanted Places" is dedicated to her. Olive was born on 2/23/1895 and died in 1978. Milne's reply letter to Elizabeth is dated 2/28/75. It's interesting to think that Milne would have asked Olive, quite possibly on her 80th birthday, to sign a copy of this book that he was giving as a birthday present. We know of no other book signed by Olive...
