About the Item

From Japan, a hand-painted, lacquered papier-mache boxed card set, holding two complete decks of cards, circa 1920s. The holder is lacquered in orange and hand-painted with a gold and black landscape of boats sailing between mountains. The box is decorated on all sides. The cover slips over the box, which has a divided interior for holding the two decks, complete with 52 cards each. The cards, one set printed with gold edging, the other with silver edging, show an image of an Americanized Pin-Up woman posed on the mast of a sailing ship. The woman wears a yellow sashed period sporting outfit. Great graphic. Box: 4 in. L x 2 in. W x 2.75 in. H Cards: 3.5 in. H x 2.25 in.
