About the Item
Rare workshop model of a dormeuse or méridienne, richly carved and gilded wood, dating from the Empire period, circa 1805.
A perfect scale reproduction, the dormeuse is fully upholstered in original green velvet. It rests on four finely carved lion's paws and is richly decorated with arabesque carvings. Original gold leaf gilding. This is a store model, made for customers to understand the final yield. Cabinetmakers would first make a drawing of the furniture based on the customer's requirements; then they would make a perfect scale model, from which they would start to make the actual furniture. This was, of course, only the case in high cabinet-making workshops.
Very good condition, some inevitable signs of time.
