Presentation Model of America’s Cup Winner America by G. L. Watson
Located in Lymington, Hampshire
This cased presentation half hull model is of the first winner of the America’s Cup, the schooner America. The copper coloured bottom is painted with black topsides and has a finely carved garland around the bow. There are two stump masts, a caprail and bowsprit. It is set on a mahogany backboard with a Bakelite name plaque engraved ‘Schooner Yacht ‘America’ Scale ¼ = 1 foot to W.G.J. from G.L.W’. A label identifies the case maker as ‘Lambert Picture Frame Manufacturer, 34 Albert Gate, Hyde Park, S.W.’ and another describes the model, including the fact that the case was added in 1903. It then explains the initials W.G.J. and G.L.W. ‘This model was presented by G.L.Watson to W.G.Jameson. George L.Watson was one of England’s leading yacht designers. He designed four America’s Cup Challengers which included: Thistle, Valkyrie, Valkyrie II and Shamrock II. He also designed the King’s Britannia, and the Kaiser’s Meteor. William G.Jameson was probably the most successful amateur helmsman in the U K in the 1880’s and the 1890’s. Jameson introduced Lord Dunraven to yacht racing in 1887. Dunraven was to build three challengers for the America’s Cup, all designed by G.L.Watson. Jameson in 1892 acted as an adviser to the Prince of Wales and introduced him to Watson who designed his Britannia. Jameson also advised Thomas Lipton in his Shamrock II challenge. Clearly, Watson and Jameson worked closely throughout their careers. Scottish, 1887. Provenance: 1887 George L. Watson presented this half hull to William G. Jamieson 1903 Unknown owner(s) thence The Glen Foster Collection 1999 Hyland Granby Antiques, Hyannis Port, Massachusetts 2002 The Kelton Collection of Maritime Art & Artifacts Probably the most famous racing yacht ever built, and the first winner of the America’s Cup, this schooner, designed by James and George Steers, was built by a syndicate of New York Yacht Club members to sail to England. The purpose of this visit was twofold: to show off U.S. shipbuilding skills and make money through competing in regattas. Only launched on 3rd May 1851, she had crossed the Atlantic and won the 53-mile race around the Isle of Wight by 22nd August that same year. America was captained by Richard Brown, who was a skilled member of the Sandy Hook Pilots group, renowned worldwide for their expertise and speed in manoeuvering schooner-rigged pilot boats...

Manly P Hall, the Secret Teachings of All Ages, First Edition Book & 4 Prints
Located in Los Angeles, CA
The classic encyclopedia of the arcane in an expanded edition. Renowned philosopher and lecturer Manly P. Hall’s masterful encyclopedia of ancient symbols, hidden rituals, and arcane practices has remained a classic since first published in 1928. Hall’s densely detailed writings explore topics ranging from Hermeticism to Tarot, Egyptian mythology to Pythagorean theory. Each chapter is accompanied by the vivid illustrations of artist J. Augustus Knapp, with additional images by Mihran Serailian found in the companion volume, each taking their own unique approach to nearly 60 artworks depicting occult subject matter. The initial concept for what became known as Hall’s “Great Book”, first began in 1923 when the young Los Angeles-based orator began a months-long trip around the globe. Circumnavigating by ship, Hall visited Egypt, China and India, immersing himself in the philosophical and religious history of each country. Upon his return he spent the next five years penning his massive compendium of philosophy and myth. Nearly a century after its release, this iconic masterwork has been reproduced for the first time from the rare and extravagant original edition. This meticulously-restored version of Hall’s “Great Book” is also accompanied by an expansive companion book, featuring condensed summaries of each chapter of The Secret Teachings, alongside newly-discovered artworks, rare photography...

Vintage Gimbal-Mounted Compass by Wilcox, Crittenden & Co.
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is a Victorian-era gimballed compass by Wilcox, Crittenden & Co. of Middletown, Connecticut. The brass compass is beautifully constructed and fitted in its original wooden lidded box. The compass is mounted on a 360-degree brass gimbal ring system. The gimbal ring design allows the compass to remain level regardless of the angle of the base or how much the ship may have pitched or rolled on the open waters. The compass card is black and white and is marked with the Wilcox, Crittenden & Co. monogram at true north. The company that would eventually become Wilcox, Crittenden & Co. was first established by Eldridge H. Penfield and his uncle Ira Penfiels in 1847 in Middletown, Connecticut. Middletown was New England;s largest inland port. Eldridge Penfield is famous for first conceiving of a metal grommet to replace rope grommets used by sailors. The Penfields hired Walter Wilcox, cousin to Eldridge Penfield, to operate the hand stamping tool that fabricated the metal grommets. As steamships gradually replaced sailing, the company’s expanded their line to make and sell all sorts of nautical hardware and instruments. Their 1870 catalog offered such varying products as shackles, thimbles, ring bolts, “Ereful whistles,” engine-room signals, boat nails...

Very good condition fully functional. Inches 1.7x0.7 Shipping is insured by Lloyd's London; our gift box is free. Enrico (Henry) Negretti (Como 1817 - London 1879), emigrated to London in 1829, where he attended the London Mechanics Institute, at the same time starting an apprenticeship in a laboratory of precision optical instruments. In 1859 he joined Joseph Zambra (1822-1897), a manufacturer of scientific instruments, and they established the Negretti & Zambra Ltd, with numerous branches in London, and soon they had a good reputation both at home and abroad because of the excellence of their products. In the early years of the company, they limited production to meteorological instruments, or, as they defined them, "philosophical instruments". About in 1857 Negretti & Zambra were commissioned by the British government to investigate about the temperature of the sea along the coasts, to clarify which influence the temperature had on migration and habits of fishes and which were the seasons and temperatures more suitable for fishing. For these investigations, the Negretti & Zambra realized for the Admiral Fitzroy...
