About the Item

Unique, wonderfully sculptural and meaningful Gothic church bible stand. This relatively large, hand carved antique Gothic Revival bible stand is another one of our recent rare finds. All handcrafted out of solid oak only, this church stand probably dates back to the earliest years of the twentieth century. However, the quality of the evangelist carvings is so good that this stand could also be late 19th century. This church relic stands as strong and stable as the day it was made, but we can see that over the decades some damages have been repaired and there also are a few tiny chips to the wood. What makes this ecclesiastical antique stand out from all other bible stands, are ofcourse the four large, hand carved evangelist symbols. Because of their size, quality and positioning on this church bible stand, your attention will immediately be drawn to them. Here the four evangelists are depicted with beautiful angelic wings making them even more holy- and saint-like. The winged angel figure is for Saint Matthew, the winged lion for Saint Marc, the winged bull for Saint Luke and the winged eagle for Saint John. No matter where you decide to have this meaningful antique on display, its quality carvings and deeper meaning will never fail to impress. Mind you, the large antique bible with the silver decorations is not included in this listing. This probably unique and certainly antique church bible stand is great value for money.
