About the Item

ABOUT The original Pocket Poco was manufactured by the Rochester Optical Co. from approximately 1893 to 1905. Designed as a small compact camera, the camera took 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 (quarter plate) size images. Constructed of wood covered in seal grain leather, red leather bellows and brass and nickel plated hardware. The camera folds to 2.5 inches. Original San Francisco camera shop label on the case. Shown with life size hand. The camera may or may not work and is sold for decorative purposes only. CREATOR Rochester Optical Company New York. DATE OF MANUFACTURE c.1903. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Leather, Chrome, Optical Glass, Fabric. CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. DIMENSIONS Camera: H 7 in. W 5 in. D 8.25 in., Case: H 7 in., W 5 in. D 2.5 in. HISTORY The Rochester Optical Company became one of the most dominant and influential camera companies in the 1880's and 1890's, prior to the rise of the Eastman Kodak Company.
