About the Item
An exceptionally rare collector’s set of four unique “Fuck the Human Race” vinyl figures, hand-decorated by acclaimed Spanish designer Jaime Hayon during the 2004 ToyCon in Hong Kong. Produced by the influential design toy company Toy2R, these figures represent a rare intersection of contemporary art, design, and collectible culture.
Each Onion stands 13 inches (30 cm) tall and is completely unique, reflecting Hayon’s fantastical and often subversive visual vocabulary. The figures were never sold to the public and have been preserved in near mint condition in their original packaging.
Also included in this set:
The “Fuck the Human Race” edition — a stark, irreverent statement piece.
The “Love Invader” — a romantic and playful expression of Hayon’s signature aesthetic.
About Jaime Hayon:
Jaime Hayon (b. 1974) is one of the most prominent and forward-thinking designers of the 21st century. Trained as an industrial designer in Madrid and Paris, Hayon emerged as a creative force while working at Fabrica, the design and communication research center founded by Benetton. By the early 2000s, he had already begun to blur the boundaries between art, design, and decoration.
Hayon’s work is instantly recognizable for its blend of surrealism, humor, and craftsmanship. He has collaborated with global brands including Fritz Hansen, BD Barcelona, Baccarat, and Cassina, and his work is held in the permanent collections of major institutions such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Design Museum in London. Early in his career, Hayon was also a vital figure in the designer toy movement, where his playful yet sophisticated forms found expression in vinyl and limited-edition art objects—like the “Onion” series offered here.
These Onions not only mark an important early chapter in Hayon’s evolution but also capture a key moment in the global rise of art toys as collectible design.

Designer Toys, also called art toys, are toys and collectibles created by artists and designers that are either self-produced or made by small, independent toy companies, typically in very limited editions. Artists use a variety of materials, such as ABS plastic, vinyl, wood, metal, latex, plush, and resin. Creators often have backgrounds in graphic design, illustration, or fine art, but many accomplished toy artists are self-taught. The first Designer Toys appeared in the 1990s in Hong Kong and Japan. By the early 2000s, the majority of Designer Toys were based upon characters created by popular Lowbrow artists, forever linking the two movements.

Urban Vinyl, Vinyl Art also called Designer Toys are created by an artist or designer working with a production company, or solely, to produce a limited run of a collectible 3D figure in one or more colour variants. It all started when in the 1990's Hong Kong based artist Michael Lau showed up at a Hong Kong toy show with customized GI Joe figures, that had been reworked into urban hip hop characters, wearing cool streetwear labels and accessories. This ignited a trend that first spread from Hong Kong and Japan, and was initially known as Urban Vinyl, but now the more accepted term is Designer Toys, which is more encompassing.
In Michael Lau footsteps followed many artists like Kaws, Frank Kozik, Gary Baseman, Bill McMullen...
