H. Schedler's Terrestrial Globe (12 inches diameter) Compiled from the latest and most authentic sources, including all the recent Geogr. Discoveries Conatining the Principal Lines of Oceanic Steam Communicatin & Submarnie Telegraphs. Pat. Nov. 24th 1868, Copyright 1889 Jersey City, N.J. and New York, N. Y., USA Very rare celestial globe patented Nov. 1868 Diameter 12 inch (approximate 30.5cm) height approximate 47cm Three-legged frame, wooden legs, metal struts and zodiac sign ring, paper is dark due to age with a few splinters or missing parts, cartouche is still easy to read, north of the equator the countries are hard to decipher, south of the equator the paper is not yet darkened. The paper on the ring itself is also very dark with missing parts. At the equator there are defects, but this can be at this age. There is still the Chinese Empire (until 1912) drawn in and with a high resolution of the camera also the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. A real and very heavy collector's item. Joseph Schedler (fl.1860s-1880s), founder of the Schedler firm, and his successor, Herman Schedler (fl. 1880s-1890s), were German immigrants, based in New York and Jersey City, New Jersey, who manufactured a wide variety of table, floor, and novelty globes, generally for school use, but some designed specifically for the home "parlor." Schedler was among the first American globe makers to include details of shipping lines, telegraph lines, ocean currents, depth figures, and lines of magnetic variation. Joseph Schedler's globes won prizes at the Paris International Exhibition in 1867, the American Institute Fair in 1869 and the Vienna International Exhibition in 1873. In 1875, Schedler published sn illustrated manual for the use of the terrestrial and celestial globes. (sourc. Globusfreund).
