19th Century Aubusson Pattern Walnut Fireplace Screen, Louis XV Style

About the Item

Everything about this screen is charming, from the bunch of needlepoint flowers, to the ribbon-like wood carving that frames the screen. This is an antique English piece from the Victorian era, circa the third quarter of the 19th Century. The screen is in very good condition without any fraying or other issues to the needlepoint work.. The screen is made of walnut of rectangular form with serpentine top and ribbon crest, inset with an Aubusson style needlework tapestry panel with floral motif. The screen is accented with brass tack trim and stands on trestle feet. These screen were used to keep sparks from a fire from entering the room. It provided a shield from the heat as well. They were also used when there was no fire burning as a decorative feature to cover the opening in the fireplace. This particular screen is a design asset with its rust, blush, and pink color palette. This was an irresistible estate sale find. It measures 39 inches tall by 22 inches wide.
