Brazilian Modern Room Divider in Hardwood & Leather by Sergio Rodrigues, 1960s

About the Item

Available today, this spectacular Mid-Century Modern room divider in hardwood and leather painted in blue & red by Sergio Rodrigues made in the sixties is nothing less than spectacular! The room divider features three panels made in Brazilian Rosewood, known as Jacaranda. The panels are draped in painted leather in Blue & Red. The wood has been restored and displays vibrant yellow veins. The leather is original and while the color is faded and has some scratches, this is precisely what gives the piece the WOW factor. The piece is showcased in our gallery next to a Sergio Rodrigues theater sofa, a wood bench by Jorge Jabour Abouad and an armchair by Novo Rumo. The convo looks phenomenal. A versatile piece like this can be used as a room divider or as an accent by itself. It can also be fully extended, half close or close depending on the available Size. Regardless of the position it will be a showstopper. A piece like this can effortlessly flex into any Modern, Contemporary or Eclectic environment. This piece would also look wonderful in a boho chic, or Hollywood Regency style home as well. For the history buffs here, it goes. Sergio Rodrigues started working in the 1950s when the foundations of modern Brazilian architecture were already laid out, yet furniture design was still nascent. Rodrigues set himself the task of designing furniture that was both truly Brazilian and modernist at the same time. Over the course of his career, he accomplished this task by defining a robust, modern, and pure language reflected in his work. “The piece of furniture is not just the shape, not just the Material which is made but also something inside it. It's the piece's spirit. It's the Brazilian spirit. It's Brazilian furniture” (Sergio Rodrigues). Size: H69.3, W78.7, D0.8 (in) H176, W200, W2 (cm).
