Fine Pair Of Fine 18th C. Painted European Screens
About the Item
A pair of 18th Century Scene Painted Screens with very good color and excellent form. All with scenes with men in capes and plumed hats, some on horseback, some soldiers, a merchant with a horse-drawn cart, cargo, and women. They gather near the shore with sail boats with cargo, some figures are on the vessels. Azure blue skies above with clouds. All in finely decorated broad shaped frames in pale gray paint with gilt leafy vines and roundels in the upper corners. Plain gray-green painted backs. Newer hinges on the backs.
H. 41", each section W. 30.5” D 1”.
Condition: Please see detail photos. There are various signs of age and wear including chips and wear along the edges, some expected paint loss and some surface wear to paint and worn backs (please see photos) but does not detract from the scenes which present exceptionally well
