20th Century Ico Parisi Stildomus Magazine Rack in Wood and Nickeled Brass

About the Item

Ico Parisi was an Italian architect and designer, born in Palermo in 1916. His activity, marked by continuous experimentation, consists in an incessant research in the fields of architecture, art and design. Between 1948 and 1950 he devoted himself to the study of furniture elements. In the field of design, the crucial encounters with Munari, Fontana and Melotti profoundly marked his experience. In 1947 he married Luisa Aiani and with her opened his first furniture studio in 1948, which took the name of La Ruota, the wheel, that was a hub for design, art, exhibitions and cultural events. Since his very earliest projects, Parisi had taken on a methodological approach, already seen in the works of Carlo Belli and Alberto Sartoris, that saw the integration of the pictorial arts in design work, with the involvement of painters and sculptures in the design process. Magazine Rack designed by Ico Parisi at the end of '50 for Stildomus production. The stand has a structure in Nickeled Brass, and the rack itself is in wooden slats. The item has still the brandmark Stildomus. Good condition, fully original. Published in: R. Lietti, Ico Parisi. Design. Catalogo ragionato 1936-1960, p. 604, Silvana Editoriale, 2017.

Amazing midcentury wood and brass folding magazine rack. This item was produced in Italy during 1950s in the style of Ico Parisi. This folding magazine rack is marvellous as it has two watercolour landscapes engravings on each side affixed behind the glass, plus beech and brass details. Iconic design and unique features, this piece is going to be a central point in a midcentury-style living room or entrance hall. Ico Parisi was an Italian architect and designer. Born Domenico Parisi in 1916 in Palermo, Italy, he was involved in building construction and architecture in Como during his early adulthood. By the 1940s, Parisi took up filmmaking and began designing furniture in 1945, for which he would become most renowned. His designs are characterized by their Italian Mid-Century Modern aesthetic, constructed using soft woods often cut into boomerang-like shapes, augmented by metal slats and boldly colored upholstery. His most prolific period was the two decades that preceded 1965, when he married and formed a design team with his wife, Luisa Aiani, in 1948. He studied architecture between 1949-1952 under Alberto...
