About the Item
An English George III mahogany canterbury
A fine early example of an English Canterbury. These pieces were first introduced in the late 18th century and intended for a music room and were designed to store sheet music, often in recent years used to store magazines or books. This early example dates to c 1810 and is of a plain stylish design, rectangular in shape with a slender mahogany frame with four divisions. Below there is a slim single drawer with original gilt brass knobs. This charming piece stands on elegantly turned slender legs with original brass castors. ( one rear castor replaced but a close match to the originals. In good original condition circa 1810.
