In 1910, Lenyon made his first visit to the United States to supervise the interior decoration of Whitlaw Reid, and soon opened a New York branch of his firm. As in England, Lenyon 's American clients were wealthy and sophisticated and relied on Lenyon to furnish authentic and reproduction interiors in period styles. In the 1930s, Lenyon was hired by Nelson Rockfeller to serve as a major consultant to the reconstruction of Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, and selected all the furnishings for the Governor's Palace there. Melodicware Trio, Musical Portal, Agustina Bottoni
Located in Geneve, CH
Designed by Agustina Bottoni Handcrafted in Italy Materials: Solid brass with satin finish - rayon fringes Size: 150cm x 110cm Chain length: 150cm / 60 Melodicware explores the auditory experience of objects. These items contains brass chimes of different lengths that play musical notes. Swinging by breeze or touch, they release casual melodies inspired by Debussy. Melodicware not only embellishes a space as a jewel. Through interaction, it comes to life for a fleeting moment. The lush fringes of the delicate pieces invite to be touched by passers by, becoming thus an unexpected musical instrument. Agustina Bottoni Agustina Bottoni is an independent Argentinian designer based in Milan. She works for companies, private clients and self-productions of objects, textiles and furniture. Graduated at the University of Buenos Aires, and after years of working in the fashion industry, she transferred to Milan, graduating with honors of the MA in product design at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti. Following, she collaborated with design studios in Italy and the Netherlands before dedicating since 2015 to her independent design practice. Exploring the language of everyday objects, these projects tell stories through a gentle use of shape. Agustina’s multicultural experience influences the research of different materials and techniques. They also encourage an emotional perception, considering objects as companions in our lives. Her works have been exhibited at Triennale Design Museum in Milan, Salone del Mobile, Maison&Objet and others. Since 2016, she is a co-founder of design collective The Ladies’ Room. Antique and Vintage Curtains and Valances for Sale: Shop Velvet Curtains, Victorian Curtains and Other Textiles on 1stDibs

From luxe drapes in sumptuous hues to airy shades crafted from natural bamboo, window treatments have become a hot topic. The right antique and vintage curtains and valances can change and improve the feel and mood of any room in your home.

Window treatments such as curtains and valances serve multiple functions: filtering light, maintaining privacy and injecting personality. Like furniture, they have the ability to transform and elevate a room. And while it takes work to seamlessly integrate window treatments with the surrounding decor, it will be worth the effort!

Designer Brigette Romanek, whose notable clients include Beyoncé and Gwyneth Paltrow, believes that the perfect window treatment blends usability with aesthetics. That mix is elegantly exemplified in this dual-use Los Angeles living room. “In the daytime, you can pull the drapes and let all that light in and enjoy the incredible view," explains Romanek. "This space is also a media room, and the blinds do a great job of blacking out the room for weekend afternoon movie marathons.”

A firm believer in the power of window dressings, Starrett Ringbom puts a lot of thought into choosing just the right type and design. Just as lighting is an essential part of any interior design project — having the right light fixture is indeed key to creating an attractive, radiant room — a well-chosen pair of curtains or well-placed window valance can make all the difference. Regardless of their appearance, though, window dressings must work with the existing architecture. As Ringbom puts it, “Window treatments are a vital component of any room design.”

Frances Merrill, of Reath Design, sympathizes with those struggling to find the right dressing for their windows. “Curtains are so hard! The window treatment and the fabric used can make such a difference in how light moves through a room.”

On 1stDibs, the collection of antique and vintage curtains and valances for sale includes velvet curtains, mid-century curtains featuring interesting prints and other textiles for your space.
