About the Item
This is a semi mechanical Ermisino fabric, similar to a shot taffeta. It is woven on an original loom from the 1850s. The Ermisino fabric belongs to the Antico Setificio Fiorentino archives. This fabric can be used for light upholstery such as drapery and pillows. The two colors silk gives a special effect “cangiante” effect as it changes its shades with the light. Its structure creates a "memory" as the fabric holds its shape, making it the perfect option for rich and opulent drapery. The metal weft threads create a "liquid metal" effect, transforming this timeless fabric into something modern and almost futuristic.

Antico Setificio Fiorentino
Founded in 1786, the Antico Setificio Fiorentino represents the uninterrupted continuation of one of the oldest Florentine Arts, the Art of Silk. By the fourteenth century, silk was the source of wealth and importance for many noble Florentine families, who created an enduring economy of fortune within Florence by producing and trading the precious material. Innovation continued, and around the middle of the eighteenth century some of the noble Florentine families decided to establish a single workshop that would regroup all of the looms, patterns and fabrics previously located in their individual residences. This very establishment is currently located on Via Bartolini n° 4 and it has been a valued part of the Stefano Ricci Group since 2010. One of the most prized historical machines, still in use today, is an ancient warper based off of a design by Leonardo da Vinci.
The sumptuous fabrics, such as the Broccatelli, Lampassi, Ermisini and Damaschi, continue to be skillfully woven by artisans for use in homes, palaces, and museums worldwide. The taste, attention to detail, and unique formation of the often made-to-measure cloths now make up exquisite collections designed to fulfill the dreams and desires of the most refined clientele.
