1970s Signed Vintage Pastel Persian Shirfar Tabriz Wool and Fine Silk Rug
Located in Dallas, TX
21676 Vintage Persian Shirfar Tabriz Rug, 05'10 x 09'06. Crafted by the skilled hands of Shir Far, a revered master weaver hailing from Tabriz, Iran, this vintage Persian Tabriz rug embodies the essence of exquisite artistry and timeless elegance. Shir Far is renowned for his unparalleled craftsmanship, distinguished by high-quality materials, distinctive designs, and captivating color combinations. His hallmark, a signature cartouche inscription delicately centered within the guard border, serves as a testament to his mastery and attention to detail. Intricately designed with a touch of Rococo opulence, this hand-knotted wool and silk vintage Persian Shirfar Tabriz rug exudes an air of timeless elegance. The allover floral motif, delicately woven in soft pastel hues, evokes a sense of refined grandeur reminiscent of Rococo aesthetics. At the heart of the rug lies a cusped medallion, surrounded by a lush floral featuring blooming palmettes, curled sickle leaves, and cascading arabesque vines adorned with peonies, carnations, and lotus flowers. The medallion's ornate design is further accentuated by dramatic corner spandrels, boasting intricate baroque elements that set the stage for an abundance of flower garlands and organic leafy mounds. Encapsulating the floral medallion is a border adorned with a variation of Rococo-inspired floral motifs, delicately intertwined with inner and outer botanical floral guard bands. The border exudes decadent beauty, framing the rug with a sense of lavishness and refinement characteristic of Rococo design. The dreamy color palette, with its soft pastel tones, adds to the rug's allure, creating a harmonious balance between elegance and subtlety. With its elaborate detailing and sophisticated design, this vintage floral Persian rug...

Vintage 1970s Boho Rug Berber Algerian Multicolored Geometrical Handmade Pink
Located in London, GB
A vintage Berber 'Amazigh' multicoloured wool rug from northern Algeria is a beautiful and intricately crafted piece of textile art. The rug has a square shape and is double-faced, meaning that it can be used on either side. The base colour of the rug is beige, which provides a warm and neutral backdrop for the striking geometric patterns that adorn it. The rug features stripes of diamond shapes, zigzags, and eye-like motifs, which are arranged in a balanced and symmetrical manner. The colours used in the rug are predominantly bright, bold, rich and vibrant, with a mix of pinks, blues, greens, and yellows standing out against the beige background. The use of multiple colours adds depth and vibrancy to the rug, making it a visually striking piece. The wool used in the rug is of high quality, providing a soft and plush texture that feels luxurious underfoot. The rug is also durable and well-made, able to withstand the test of time and repeated use. Unlike other Berber rugs that originate from neighbouring touristic countries and anyone could grab a rug, Algeria is not a touristic destination and therefore extremely difficult to find these rugs outside the country. We have a large collection of Algerian Berber Amazigh rugs...

Vintage Berber 1970s Geometrical Rug Handmade Wool Boho North African Ethnic XXL
Located in London, GB
A very large Algerian Berber rug with many different colorful patterns, such as arrows, diamonds, triangles, and more, stacked and organized in horizontal lines on a white/beige base, is a stunning work of art that is characterised by its standout colors of pink fuchsia and blue red purple palette. The different shapes on the rug's patterns hold cultural and historical significance, and the use of these standout colors adds an extra layer of meaning to the design. For instance, pink fuchsia is often associated with love and femininity, while blue red purple is often associated with royalty and spirituality. The combination of these colors and the different shapes on the rug's patterns reflect the Berber people's cultural and religious beliefs, as well as their skilled craftsmanship. The use of the white/beige base creates a neutral and versatile backdrop, allowing the vibrant colors and patterns to stand out even more. This rug's large size makes it a perfect centrepiece for a living room, dining room, or bedroom, adding warmth and character to any space.. This rug is handwoven using traditional techniques by Berber tribes in Algeria, and the use of high-quality natural materials such as wool and cotton ensures its durability and longevity. From a cultural and historical perspective, this rug is unique as it is a product of the Berber people's long-standing tradition of weaving, which dates back centuries. The Berbers are indigenous people of North Africa, and their weaving traditions have been passed down through generations, preserving their cultural heritage. Unlike other Berber rugs that originate from neighbouring touristic countries and anyone could grab a rug, Algeria is not a touristic destination and therefore extremely difficult to find these rugs outside the country. Antique and Vintage Rugs for Sale: Shop Turkish Rugs, Moroccan Rugs, Indian Rugs and Other Rugs on 1stDibs

Good antique rugs and vintage rugs have made their way into homes across the globe, becoming fixtures used for comfort, prayer and self-expression, so choosing the right area rug is officially a universal endeavor.

In modern usage, “carpet” typically denotes a wall-to-wall floor cushioning that is fixed to the floor. Rugs, on the other hand, are designed to cover a specific area and can easily be moved to new locations. However, the terms are interchangeable in many parts of the world, and, in the end, it won’t matter what you decide to call it.

It’s well known that a timeless Persian rug or vintage Turkish rug can warm any interior, but there are lots of other styles of antique rugs to choose from when you're endeavoring to introduce fresh colors and textures to a bedroom or living room.

Moroccan Berber rugs are not all about pattern. In fact, some of the most striking examples are nearly monochrome. But what these rugs lack in complexity, they make up for in brilliant color and subtle variation. Moroccan-style interiors can be mesmerizing — a sitting room of this type might feature a Moroccan rug, carved wooden screens and a tapestry hung behind the sofa.

Handwoven kilim rugs, known for their wealth of rich colors and unique weaving tradition, are pileless: Whereas the Beni Ourain rugs of Morocco can be described as dense with a thick surface or pile, an authentic kilim rug is thin and flat. (The term “kilim” is Turkish in origin, but this type of textile artistry is practiced all across the Balkans, throughout the Arab world and elsewhere.)

When it comes to eye-catching floor coverings, the distinctive “medallion” pattern of Oushak rugs has two types of rounded shapes alternating against a rich red or blue background created with natural dyes, while the elaborate “star” pattern involves large eight-pointed shapes in diagonal rows alternating with diamonds.

If you’re looking for something unexpected, find a runner rug that pops in your hallway or on your stairs. Dig for dazzling geometric patterns in our inventory of mid-century modern rugs and carpets, which includes works designed by the likes of Swedish textile masters Märta Måås-Fjetterström, Marianne Richter and other artisans.

Carpets and rugs have been around for thousands of years. Prehistoric humans turned to animal skin, wool and fur to craft simple fabrics to soften hard terrain. A 2016 study suggests that "cave lions" were hunted for exactly this purpose, and that decorating your cave with their pelts may have conferred strength and prestige. Although many of these early textiles are still in existence, tracing their precise origins is difficult. Carpets quickly became such a valuable trade commodity that the weavings could easily travel far from their places of origin.

The oldest known carpet was found in southern Siberia. (It may have traveled there from Persepolis in Iran.) For the flat-weave floor rugs crafted by Native Americans, cotton was the primary material before sheep’s wool was introduced in the 16th century. In Europe, carpet-making was fundamental to folk art, and Asian carpets imported to European countries were at one time considered a precious luxury and not intended to remain permanently on the floor.

With the variety of area rugs and carpets rolled out for you on 1stDibs — a collection that includes traditional, modern, minimalist rugs and other coverings of all kinds — things will be looking up whenever you’re looking down.
