Antique Caucasian Karabagh Kazak Runner circa 1900

About the Item

A very handsome example of an antique Kazak attributed to a village in the north-west part of Karabagh, this distinctive group of rugs are known as cloud-band Kazak. The adjectival description refers to the worm-like configurations within the principal medallions. The runner has a generously designed field with three full medallions and one that disappears into the border. Its ground is decorated with many geometric devices and the most unusual of all decorations of the field is the existence of five beautiful birds that would make this caucasian very unique.Tha pale red/orange background and many different shades of blues, greens, reds, browns, and ivorieswithin the medallions make the rug very appealing, colorful and fun to look at. The floral-meander main border with its unexpected pale ivory is also unusual for this type of caucasians. The overall condition of this rug is very good with few expert restorations and areas of wear consistent with its age and usage. There is half an inch by a foot adjustment at the end of one border to fix a wrinkle. All sides and ends are original, all dyes are organic and wool quality is excellent.
