Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug circa 1910 3’2x4’7”
About the Item
Great looking antique Caucasian Shirvan featuring an indigo blue field decorated with three star medallions, two in ivory and tan and the middle one with sky blue and pale orange colors. These twelve pointed stars with stepped outlines known as “Lesghi stars”,named after a region in the caucus comprise of colors that are boldly contrasted. The overall effect is one of an explosion from star’s center. the rug is surrounded by an ivory leaf and flower main border and two guard borders.
The condition of this rug is age appropriate with minimal wear, all dyes are organic,and sides are original and the quality of weave is impressive. The estimated time to hand knot this rug is about 600 hours.
