Chinese Fette Carpet
About the Item
The Fette workshop was active in Peking in the interwar period and specialized in light-toned carpets with influences from early Chinese textiles, jades and bronzes. The open tan field of this large Fette is surrounded by and elaborate golden beige border of mobile small, curled leaves. The outlines are contour cut to achieve a sculptural effect. The palette is mellow, and restricted, with no red or blue tones.
