Antique Kurdish Kazak Corridor Rug, circa 1920
About the Item
A well drowned Kurdish kazak corridor rug with brilliant colors of flowerheads that are highly abstract rosettes.
The serrated outline of each ornament and colors in which each has been woven evoke petals, while the star filled diamond represents each open flower stem. The main border on a tan/yellow field is decorated with carnation flowers flanked by two guard border of "running dogs" these guard borders are supposed to keep the bad spirits at bay so the folktale has it!
This fine example of kazak has uniformity without appearing rigid. Its glowing colors particularly the light blue and salmon of the ragged flowerheads are extremely striking. The condition of this rug is excellent, there are no restorations on it and all sides and ends are original.
