Antique Persian Qashqai Kilim Runner

About the Item

The Qashqai are a tribal federation living in southwestern Persia/Iran along the Zagros Mountains, mostly in the Fars and Khuzestan Provinces. The women in this tribe have long had a reputation of being both skilled and prolific weavers. Much of the Qashqai tribe has settled in cities, towns, and villages, and their goods are often sold in Shiraz, the capital city of the Fars province. Their rugs are woven in primary colors with glossy wool, usually in geometric or stylized floral patterns. One distinguishing characteristic of these rugs is the striped “barber’s pole” single-cord selvedge or edge finish. This carpet is rare in that it comes in a gallery format size of 17' 5" x 5' 6".
