Antique Turkish Sivas Rug, Dark Red Field, Center Medallion
About the Item
A tall, slightly lobed ivory medallion displays a fine arabesque strapwork, with double pendant, on the coral-red flower-filled ground .A few snaky cloud bands sneak in. Sivas carpets are the Tabrizes of Turkish town weaving, but this one is more in the Kashan or Sarouk vein. Slate main border with two types of inward palmette types. Medium urban weave, cotton foundation.
