Eccentric Sultanabad Carpet

About the Item

On a beige field, a large all-over pattern develops from two columns of open lozenges and vertical pole segments. Eccentric palmette/rosette medallions sprout expressionistic flowers and more abstract motives that seem to flow and float occupy some of the larger spaces in the well-spaced field. The wide taupe border displays large eight-prtal rosettes and ragged palmettes, along with short floral sprays. The outlining of the basic ivory skeleton changes in the upper half of the rug to a darker brown. This is one of the many charming idiosyncracies of this carpet.
