About the Item
Persian carpet, Ghom, c. 1910/20, silk, warm natural colors, signature in the picture field, very good condition, 300 x 200 cm
These kind of carpets come from the holy Persian city of Ghom, a City in Iran, located 130 kilometers south of Tehran, which has become famous among collectors all over the world for its particularly fine and exclusive carpets. The materials used are predominantly silk or cork wool, but the silk carpets made of pure natural silk are particularly popular.
The thin threads of Ghom silk allow master weavers to weave up to two million knots per square meter. This allows them to freely develop their creative talent, so that animals, historical figures and pictorial scenes from oriental palace life are also frequently found.
