Mansion size Mint Condition Oushak Rug circa 1900
About the Item
While over-sized antique Oushak carpets are certainly known and desirable commodities in the current marketplace, few exude the elegance and over-all refinement of this piece. Classic gold and khaki hues highlight an ivory ground where repeat ornament of palmettes and vine-scroll is drawn both spaciously and crisply using soft wool and soft tones. The scale and spacing of this piece are as perfect as they are ever seen in the genre, as abstract garlands are formed from the floating floral elements of the field. The piece is framed by a complimentary border of joined palmettes, while two bands of ornament at top and bottom are elegantly used to balance the proportions of the field. Mint condition.
