About the Item

Baffo is an iconic armchair defined by a sinuous metal tube that runs and bends, suspending a leather seat about a foot off the ground. A simple and fluid gesture, giving rise to an essential but strongly expressive form. The project was born from the encounter between the industrial precision of the structure and the handcrafted uniqueness of the leather seat, made and sewn by hand as a one-of-a-kind piece. Contrasting stitching, also handcrafted, consistently follows the design of the structure, creating a visual dialogue between the materials. The supporting frame is made of tubular metal with a polished chrome galvanized finish, while the seat is made of full-grain leather, designed to last and gain character with use. An object that expresses the tension between seriality and craftsmanship, typical of the research of Gruppo Dam, a protagonist of experimental Italian design between the 1960s and 1970s. Designers: In 1968, Gianni Pareschi, the G 14 (formed by Gianni Pareschi together with Roberto Ubaldi, Gianfranco Facchetti, Pino Pensotti and Umberto Orsoni), Ezio Didone and Alberto Colombi founded the Dam Group, an acronym for Designer Associati Milano. Together they brought to life a series of significant projects for the Busnelli Industrial Group-including Topos, Armadillo, Baffo, Zen, Mattress-also helping to shape the company's image through exhibition booth design and advertising campaigns. The group distinguished itself by its radical and visionary approach, often ahead of its time, proposing ideas and concepts outside the traditional box. In addition to furniture design, the Dam Group also designed original ceramic objects-such as tiles, vases, ashtrays-for the historic Cedit factory. In 1970 they also made a series of models for a renowned Venetian company specializing in chandeliers and blown glass objects. The Dam Group signed several ideological and programmatic manifestos on design and organized a large exhibition dedicated to their work at the Domus Center in Milan.
